I'm reading. . .

Disturbing story of author's childhood which was martyred by her father, a fundamentalist Mormon suffering from bipolar disease and attendant paranoia and her mother who was passive and acquiescent although a strong smart woman at heart. Throw in a violent brother and that's three crippling people Tara had to learn to deal with in order to survive. Against all odds, the author finally gets to go to school having missed el-hi education completely. She is so talented and brilliant that she somehow makes up for all the missing pieces in her history. Of course she's left with some psychological problems due to the brainwashing she endured. A very readable book, one that rivals The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls. The reader is rooting for Tara and each time she acquiesces to the demands of her family, we wince and fear for her safety. A great story of resilience and survival.
